Travelers Checks

Postby Lsorondo » Sat Jul 28, 2012 9:47 pm

Hey there folks!

I was wondering if anyone had ever taken travelers checks to Japan. As safe as it is over in Japan, traveling with that much money can be risky with all the flurry of movement between the US, Tokyo, and Kumamoto. Thus, I was thinking of maybe cashing half of what I planned to take, and taking the other half in travelers checks to deposit at my bank. I'm assuming that the banks in Amakusa will accept them...

When I first came to Amakusa I also brought travellers checks. I was able to cash them in at the main Higo branch in Hondo, although it did take a little time (about 45 minutes) because I don't think they get asked to do that sort of thing often.
