Taking the GRE in Japan?

Postby TwinJusie » Mon Dec 19, 2011 4:11 pm

Hello everyone!
I'm hoping to take the general GRE in 2012 sometime and I've found conflicting information. On one hand I've heard that in Japan it's computer based only and can be taken almost anytime while I've also heard that it's only available in paper form and offered a few times a year in four different cities (none of which are on Kyushu). Has anyone out there taken the GRE while in Japan or know of anyone who has?
Thanks in advance! :kumamon:

I haven't taken the GRE in Japan but from what I've found there are now 6 testing sites in Japan: Yokohama, 2 in Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Okinawa. The paper-based test is offered at Fukuoka and Okinawa; the rest are computer-based. Computer-based tests can be taken pretty much any day throughout the year, but paper-based tests happen up to 3 times a year. You can find this and other information here: http://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/register. Click on "Which test format is offered in my location?" to search for which test is used in which part of Japan. I also found this website helpful: http://ac.prometric-jp.com/gre/en/index.html, though it only lists the 4 testing sites that do computer-based testing.

Hope that helps!
