Shinkamu - Awesome Thai Food

About a three minute walk from Miso Tenjin tram stop

This is my favourite thai place in all of Kumamoto. What makes it better than C&C downtown? The awesome lunch buffett. For 1100¥ on weekdays, there is an all you can eat lunch buffett with two types of curry (one is always green), two types of soup, noodles, thai style chicken, salads, and more. This page has food photos: The staff is great (it is two japanese ladies and one thai dude) and they also have a small shop downstairs that you can buy cooking material or goods from Thai/Laos. It has awesome food, cool decor, and it is pretty close to downtown.

Anyway, I really love this place and I am sad that I am leaving and won't be able to go anymore! So if you are looking for a new place for eats, check it out.

One Drop - Jamaican and Indonesian Food

Postby Holly » Mon Jul 25, 2011 10:23 am

One Drop

About a 15-20 minute walk from Kengun tram stop.

One Drop is one of the best places in Kumamoto for food and music. Their menu includes:

Jerk Chicken
Avacado and Papaya Pizza (and it is GOOD pizza. Not my east coast dream pizza but good for Japan)
Super spicy Green Curry
Nasi Gorang
Jerk Chicken TACOS
Taco Rice
and more.

The upper floor of the resturant is like a loft so it can be a nice date spot or just really impressive to the people you bring. They have an ENGLISH MENU too, so no worries if your Japanese isn't up to par. The waitstaff is really nice and handsome and the decor is tribal and unique and relaxing. The food is amazing; I have never had a bad meal nor has any of the people I have gone with. Also, they have live music on the weekends.

Indo Shokudo - Two Option Indian Food

Postby Holly » Mon Jul 25, 2011 10:39 am

Indo Shokudo

営業時間 11:30~21:00
店休日 水曜日

About a two minute walk from Misotenjin Mae tram stop

Indo Shokudo is good because:

a) it is vegetarian friendly
b) the menu changes daily
c) there are only two options: vegetarian or non-vegetarian

If you are anything like me (and if you ARE then congrats you sassy minx) you have trouble making super easy decisions. Move across the globe to Japan? No problem! Vanilla or chocolate ice cream? STOP THE CLOCK I CAN'T DECIDE. Anyway, the beauty in Indo Shokudo is that they only have two options on their menu, veggie or non-veggie. Either choice is bound to get you a delicious, healthy meal. They change up their menu daily (or it might be weekly) so some days it is chicken, some days it is lamb, some days it is minced meat. Same with vegetables; some days the focus is pumpkin, other days it is goya. This isn't a nan type indian place, so the dishes come with rice.

They also have a twitter (indiandiner) (they update weekly to let you know what they're thinking about making and to announce holiday days) and speak a little bit of English. It is a small cute place that has great food.

Giardino's (in Second Sight) - Italian Food & Pizza

Postby Holly » Mon Jul 25, 2011 10:52 am

Downtown in Kumamoto City

営業時間 11:30 ~3:00 AM (SUNDAY CLOSE 2:00 AM)

Perhaps the best pizza in Kumamoto City. If you disagree, please submit a strongly worded letter to your local gun rep and we will notify you at a later date of our decision.

Anyway, just look at the menu dudes:

I recommend the:

・菜園のいろいろ野菜盛り合わせ (various seasonal vegetables in various ways -- last time I got tomatos with pesto sauce, pumpkin, and some other rad stuff)
・イタリアパルマ産生サラミのピッツァ (Italian Salami Pizza - you will get a food coma afterwards so prepare yourself)
自家製菜園のジャガイモと豊後産ハーブ鶏のダッチオーブングリル (a whole tiny chicken in a pot with potatos and herbs - it is a pain to eat but many Brits said the smell and presentation reminded them of Sunday dinners with their families)

And in case you still aren't sold on the idea, here are some photos:

Okay, checked out Giardino's yesterday for lunch.

For 840 yen you get your choice of entree (pasta, awesome pizza, omurice, risotto, etc.) and then salad. soup and drink bar. The drink bar includes coffee, an assortment of tea, orange juice, grapefruit. All in all a very happy and satisfying lunch! You can add on dessert for 200 yen if you feel so inclined.

Sri Lankan Curry

Postby Holly » Mon Aug 22, 2011 7:49 am

Sri Lanka スリーランカ

熊本県熊本市下通1-4-3 熊本ビル 2F
Sannenzaka St. 三年坂通り.

It's right near Jeff's World Bar. Like, right near.

The lunch special is mad cheap. You get curry, salad, tea, and dessert for I think around 700 yen. You can also get GIANT size portions here if you choose.

It's a good place if you're in the mood for curry and want to try something new. The staff is nice and the place has a good atmosphere. They also have other dishes like spicy chicken, chili cashew nuts, and a decent selection of beer and wines. Check it out!
